Procure Plus has welcomed Megan Lee as the new Employment and Training Manager for its Women and Manual Trades (WaMT) programme.

WaMT operates as part of Procure Plus, a not-for-profit company, after originally existing as an independent charity.

The programme works towards breaking down barriers for women in trades by offering practical support, training, and career development opportunities – helping women achieve their full potential within the construction industry.

Megan brings a wealth of experience to the role, having spent 12 years in the British Army. Joining the Royal Artillery at 16 years old, she rose to the rank of Sergeant and spent two years training junior recruits, with deployments in Afghanistan, California, and Kenya.

Following her military career, Megan joined the prison service in a Category A men’s prison.

“Women have so much to offer the construction industry, but too often, they face unnecessary barriers to entry and progression,” says Megan.

“Having spent my career in male-dominated environments, I understand these challenges—but I also know they can be overcome with the right support. I’m passionate about making trades more accessible to women and ensuring they have the opportunities, training, and confidence to succeed.

“Procure Plus is doing fantastic work in this space, and I’m excited to help drive real change and open more doors for women in the industry.”

In the coming months, Megan will continue to drive WaMT’s training pathways, strengthen networks and collaborations with local businesses and colleges, and expand its existing employment programmes to the Yorkshire and Humber regions.

She will also expand on WaMT’s 3:2 initiative which offers trade students a structured programme based on three days of study and two days of practical work experience.

Gwen Beeken, Managing Director at Procure Plus, said:

“Megan’s diverse background, leadership experience, and passion to drive opportunities for women make her a fantastic addition to the team.

“We’re excited to see how her expertise will help grow our partnerships and training programmes, ensuring that more women can access the tools and resources they need to succeed.”

WaMT supports women currently working in or looking to enter the construction trades. The programme collaborates with a variety of construction industry employers and trade bodies to make tradeswomen the norm – not the exception.

Support includes training opportunities, job interview preparations, toolkits and PPE, access to networks, and career guidance to help women build sustainable careers in the sector.
