WRPS have always invested in upskilling and training their employees and proactively recruit in the areas where they work as part of their social value commitments. Nik and the team have worked closely with Procure Plus over many years to access new recruits and recently accessed the scaffolding pre-employment programmes delivered by Fulcrum Scaffold Safety and Training Ltd at HMP Kirkham and HMP Thorncross. To date WRPS have so far recruited 6 new people and a recent good news story is Paul!

Paul’s story:
Paul is working full time for WRPS as a trainee scaffolder and driver.
Paul first became interested in training as a scaffolder when he was made aware of a course being run at HMP Kirkham. Some of his friends had recommended the course and he was keen to get a job where he could start a new career, provide a pathway to better himself and this seemed like the perfect opportunity.
Paul completed the weeklong scaffolding course and was offered an opportunity to work for WRPS in Westhoughton. Paul has been working at WRPS now for several months and is also working towards his HGV qualification. Paul said “I’m really enjoying working at WRPS and I’m thankful for all the support I have had from Nik and the team, Procure Plus and Fulcrum. From starting the scaffolding course and the new job I have never looked back. I have recently completed a NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) qualification and would like to eventually attend a Part 1 and 2 scaffolding course and continue to have a successful career”. Alongside this WRPS have recruited roofing apprentices, multi skilled operatives and labourers from the areas where they are working.
